Bonfire Memorial at Texas A&M University is known as the Spirit Ring. The ring surrounds the site of the bonfire collapse and represents the spirit that brought the students together. Twelve portals are placed around the ring, oriented toward each student's hometown. Twenty-seven stones complete the ring, representing the 27 students injured in the collapse. The Aggie Bonfire was a long-standing annual tradition at Texas A&M University as part of the college rivalry with the University of Texas at Austin. For 90 years, Texas A&M students (known as Aggies) built and burned a bonfire on campus each autumn.
