About Thung Bua Tong Fields
Thung Bua Tong at Doi Mae U Kho is a beautiful mountain hillside above Khun Yuam that fills with wild Mexican sunflowers every November. The plants grow tall and shrubby, well above waist height, with daisy shaped flowers in yellow and orange, and they grow so close together that whole slopes fill with a sea of solid colour. The fields sits at about 1,600m, so mornings are cold and mist often lies in the valleys below for quite awhile. It is worth as early start to be able to capture those layers of mist. The flowering season does change slightly from year to year based on the weather but it usually starts in early November and carries on into early December. The peak stretch of blooming usually happens in the second half of November. There are walking paths through the fields so you will have lots of room to experiment with different compositions. The raised viewing platform will give you some height to capture a wider landscape. The road up winds through 25 km of switchbacks from Khun Yuam, that can be slow going on busier weekends but the views along the way are worth stopping a couple of times to capture. This area can get quite busy during the peak bloom weeks so aim to come either early or late in the day if you want space and time to experiment. (Khun Yuam, Mae Hong Son, Thailand)
