ThyssenKrupp Headquarters

The ThyssenKrupp headquarters (known as Q1) is an eye catching cube building at the centre of the ThyssenKrupp Quarter in Essen. It was designed as a perfect cube with the outside wrapped in thousands of thin stainless steel slats, as a nod to the company's steel business. In front of the building stretches a long, still reflecting pool with walking paths criss-crossing over it. The pool lines up perfectly with the cube sitting centered at the water's edge. On calm days you can shoot low and experiment with capturing the building in peaceful reflecting pool. If intricate details are more your style of photography, you can easily get up close to experiment with the steel slats, vertical lines and shifting light. The big glass void catches the sky, so a day with clouds can give you moody reflections in the glass on top of the pool shot. In the evening the building lights up from inside and glows over the water, giving the whole area a different mood. It's a working corporate campus, so you can only shoot outside, but the pool and grounds are generally open to walk. (Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany)
