Tiger Jaw Falls is a rugged cascade tucked into the mountains of Kananaskis Country, where the water churns through a narrow rocky gorge before fanning out over a broad limestone shelf. The falls themselves are wide and layered, giving you plenty of compositional options, from tight shots of the rushing chutes to wider frames that include the surrounding canyon walls and forest. Position yourself low on the rocks at the base for a dramatic foreground and use a slow shutter speed to smooth out the white water; a polarizing filter helps cut glare on the wet rock surfaces. A wide to mid-range zoom in the 16-50mm range covers most situations well here. The light is best in the morning when it filters into the gorge without harsh midday shadows. The trail in is relatively accessible but wear grippy footwear as the rocks near the water get slippery. (Kananaskis Country, Alberta, Canada)
