Tucked into the wooded eastern edge of Dartmoor, Tottiford is one of three linked reservoirs where small overgrown dams and paths cross between two peaceful stretches of water. This reservoir is an amazing spot to experiment with drone photography. Looking straight down, you get the dam as a clean line across the middle, dark water above and below, and dense forest closing in on both sides. In autumn the woodland's mix of dark conifers with leafy trees that turn deep orange and rust make the whole area extra photogenic. Early morning is especially peaceful, when the air is still making the surface of the water the perfect spot to work with reflections. Low side light around then also flows across the treetops and brings out the texture. At ground level there are waterside trails looping the reservoirs, and you can walk out across the dam itself for views straight down the water. Access is free and open with lots of parking options in small lots near the reservoirs. Drone rules vary by location so it's best to check the local rules before setting out on a drone shooting adventure. (Dartmoor, Devon, England)
