Tour Vauban and Fort de la Hougue
Tour Vauban and Fort de la Hougue are two connected coastal fortifications at the tip of the La Hougue headland in Saint Vaast la Hougue, built in the late 17th century as part of France’s coastal defence system. The round stone tower stands within the fortified site itself, with the fort’s walls, paths, and grassy grounds spreading out around it right beside the sea. That layout makes the whole area easy to explore on foot, with plenty of ways to shoot both the tower and fort together or isolate details from each one. The mix of stonework, open shoreline, and low defensive walls gives you a lot to work with, especially when the tide is out and more of the coastal edge is visible. It is a strong spot for combining history and seascape photography, with wider views from the outer edges and cleaner architectural shots from inside the grounds. Morning and evening light are best for softer tones on the stone and more atmosphere along the water. (Saint Vaast la Hougue, France)
