Tranquille Sanatorium
Tranquille Sanatorium was built in 1907 to treat tuberculosis. It is one of several buildings in the ghost town of Tranquille just outside of Kamloops, BC. The facility had gardens, houses, a gymnasium, a farm, fire department, and more facilities. In 1958, the hospital closed and was reopened in 1959 to treat the mentally ill. It closed permanently in 1983 but briefly functioned as a detention centre for young offenders until the 1990s. Today it is owned, and the land used for agriculture, by Tranquille Farm Fresh. Most of the buildings are now on private land and this building is the only one still standing that is visible from the public road. Farm Fresh has been known to offer tours of the old buildings.
