About Trans Canada Trail Murals
Trans Canada Trail and Harbourwalk wind their way behind the Dartmouth waterfront on its way from the Alderney ferry terminal down to Woodside, about 3 km in all. The buildings along the trail have been turned into a series of murals and spray work. Some of the work was commissioned and some went up on its own changing regularly. Anything you photograph here may be painted over within the year, which is part of the appeal. Work the long view first, with the trail running beside the buildings and paintwork filling almost every corner. You can also move in close for panels, lettering and the overlaps where one piece covers another. Overcast light suits it, since flat light keeps the colours even and kills reflections off the paint. Early morning is the quiet time on the trail so you will have lots of space to experiment with various compositions. This is a working block, with a dive shop and small industrial units behind the walls so make sure to shoot from the trail. After you are done with the murals, take some time to walk the rest of the Harbourwalk to capture the skyline views across the water. (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada)
