Trascău Fortress, also known as Colțești Fortress, rises above the village of Colțești in Romania’s Trascău Mountains and offers one of the region’s most striking medieval landscapes. Built in the 13th century, the fortress ruins include towers and outer walls set atop a rocky hill, with panoramic views over the Rimetea Valley and surrounding peaks. The fortress is especially photogenic during sunrise or sunset, when the warm light highlights the stonework and casts long shadows across the terrain. A short but steep trail leads from the village to the site, rewarding hikers with sweeping vistas and an atmospheric setting steeped in Transylvanian history. (Colțești, Romania)
