Rows of tulips spread out across acres of fields at Tulipani Euganei, at this beautiful family run farm in Luvigliano di Torreglia just outside Torreglia. The field began in 2022 as a small rainbow planted by hand during the pandemic. It has since grown into twenty eight curved rows holding more than 300,000 tulips across dozens of varieties, from near black blooms to ruffled parrot types. Walk between the rows and the colour blocks look like paint swatches laid out on the hillside, with the wooded slopes of the Colli Euganei rising behind them. Standing at the end of a row lets you shoot down its length for a strong leading lines pulling your eye deep into the farm. Or crouching low between two colours lets you experiment with filling the frame edge to edge with petals. Bringing a variety of lenses in your kit allows you to play around with using a longer lens to compress several rows into one tight band of colour, or using a wider one to work with capturing the full sweep of the field against the hills. The farm also keeps beehives on site, so if you are lucky you might catch them working the same flowers you're photographing. Morning light is ideal here. The soft tones keep the colours true, before the midday sun flattens everything and washes out the more delicate shades. This is a working you-pick field, not open countryside, so a ticket is reuired to access the field and during their peak blooming weekends you will need to book ahead for a specific timed entry. The season is short, usually late March into mid April, and changes slightly from year to year depending on the spring weather so make sure to check in advance while you are planning your photography adventure.
