Tucked into the rolling hills of Wisconsin's Wyoming Valley, Unity Chapel is a small 19th-century wooden church surrounded by a quiet cemetery and mature trees that frame the structure beautifully in almost every season. The chapel's modest shingle-style exterior, designed with early input from a young Frank Lloyd Wright, photographs best from the road or the cemetery paths, where weathered headstones and overhanging branches create natural foreground elements. Soft overcast light is ideal here, reducing harsh shadows on the dark wood siding and bringing out the texture of the shingles; early morning on a foggy day adds a particularly atmospheric quality to the scene. A wide to standard focal length, somewhere around 24 to 50mm, suits the scale of the building and its relationship to the landscape. The site sits along a quiet rural road and is easy to access on foot, giving you room to work all four sides of the structure. (Spring Green, Wisconsin, United States)
