Upper Joffre Lake

Upper Joffre Lake - Photo by Giuseppe Milo1 / 1

Upper Joffre Lake is the third, and largest, of the trio of glacial Joffre lakes. It sits high above the forests tucked at the base of Joffre Peak and Matier. The turquoise blue waters of Lower, Middle and Upper Joffre lakes are each more stunning than the last. Their striking, saturated blue colour is caused by “rockflour” – or glacial silt – that is suspended in the water and reflects green and blue wavelengths of sunlight.
