Vanna Whitewall
Vanna Whitewall, sometimes called the Uniroyal Gal, is a rare example of a female Michelin Man Statue. The statue has stood here since the sixties and was once one of hundreds Uniroyal distributed across the US to promote their tires. Today only a handful remain, and even fewer in their original design. The figure has fibreglass clothes that snap on during winter to keep her warm. But in the summer, her clothes are removed to "celebrate" pool season to reveal a bright red bikini. The statue is supposedly modelled after Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and is a bizarre remnant of sixties kitsch by the side of the road. (Peoria, Illinois, USA)
