Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge
Stretching 4,260 feet across the Narrows, this massive suspension bridge connecting Brooklyn and Staten Island is one of the most dramatic structures in New York Harbor, with sweeping towers, elegant cables, and constant ship traffic passing beneath it. For classic wide shots, head to Fort Wadsworth on the Staten Island side, where you can frame the full span low to the water with tugboats and container ships adding scale. The Brooklyn side near Shore Road Park gives you a strong angle looking back toward the towers with the harbor and Manhattan skyline in the distance. Golden hour light is ideal, especially in the late afternoon when warm tones hit the steel cables from the Brooklyn side. A 24-70mm lens handles most compositions well, though a telephoto lets you compress the towers against the skyline. Parking is available at Fort Wadsworth and the adjacent shoreline is easy to walk.
