Standing at the edge of a 307-metre cliff at the top of Europe, you get an almost abstract composition where the flat plateau meets a sheer drop into the Arctic Ocean below. The famous globe monument gives you an immediate foreground subject, and framing it against the open sea with a wide angle lens captures the dramatic sense of isolation. The real draw for photographers is the midnight sun, which runs from mid-May through late July, bathing the plateau in warm golden light at an impossibly low angle throughout the night. Position yourself to the east or west of the main viewing area to avoid crowds and find cleaner compositions. The weather changes fast here, and fog or storm light can be just as compelling as clear skies. Dress for extreme cold even in summer, and give yourself time to explore the cliff edges for different perspectives on the sea below. (Nordkapp, Finnmark, Norway)
