Pays de la Sagouine is a small Acadian cultural village built on a tidal island in the Bouctouche River, and the view from the mainland gives you a compelling scene of weathered wooden buildings, a lighthouse, and the surrounding water. Position yourself behind the gas station on the waterfront road to frame the island across the calm river, using a short telephoto lens in the 70-135mm range to compress the scene and isolate the lighthouse against the buildings. Golden hour light in the morning comes in from the east and catches the facades nicely, while late afternoon gives warmer tones and softer shadows across the structures. The water is frequently still enough for reflections, so low angles work well. Access is straightforward from the roadside, and the elevated causeway nearby offers an alternate angle for wider compositions that include more of the river channel.
