Perched on a windswept ridge in the Dovrefjell highlands, this striking architectural pavilion designed by Snøhetta architects offers a rare combination of bold modernist structure and raw mountain wilderness. The building itself is as much the subject as the landscape, with its curved wooden underbelly and weathered steel exterior contrasting beautifully against the open tundra and the snow-capped peak of Snøhetta in the distance. Shoot from below the pavilion's southern side to capture that organic wooden form against the sky, or work from inside looking north through the large glass facade to frame the mountain panorama. Overcast days soften the harsh highland light and bring out the textures in both the timber interior and the surrounding moorland. A wide angle lens works well for interior compositions, while a short telephoto helps isolate the peak. The 4 kilometer walk from the parking area at Hjerkinn means you should plan for the full experience. (Hjerkinn, Innlandet, Norway)
