The Windmill Point Lighthouse (also known as Battle of the Windmill Lighthouse and Windmill Tower) is located on a height of land near the town of Prescott Ontario and overlooks the St. Lawerence River. Initially built as a windmill in 1832, it was converted to a lighthouse in 1874. As a windmill it had a colourful history - in 1838 it was seized this windmill during a rebellion with a goal of overthrowing British rule. The local people remained loyal and within a few days 2,000 militia soliders, supported by naval vessels, besieged the mill. Although British guns did little damage to the mill, the insurgents, seeing no escape, surrendered. (Prescott, Ontario, Canada)
