Winspit Quarry is a dramatic abandoned quarry cut into the limestone cliffs of the Jurassic Coast, offering a rare combination of industrial ruins, sea caves, and open ocean views in a single location. The large cave openings carved into the cliff face make compelling foreground subjects, especially when you frame the sea visible through the arched entrances, turning them into natural frames with the horizon beyond. Wide angle lenses work well here, both inside the caves looking out and from the rocky shore looking back up at the cliff face. Golden hour light in the late afternoon and evening catches the warm tones of the Portland stone beautifully, and overcast days can work equally well by reducing harsh shadows inside the caves. The path from Worth Matravers village takes about 20 minutes on foot; wear sturdy shoes as the terrain around the quarry floor and cliff edge is uneven. (Worth Matravers, Dorset, England)
