World War I Eastern Front Cemetery No. 123 is a beautiful WWI memorial sitting on a scenic hillside overlooked by a wooden chapel. In May 1915, one of the largest battles of World War I took place in this area - the Battle of Gorlice, between the Austro-Hungarian and German armies and the Russian Army. The battle claimed the lived of tens of thousands soldiers from these three armed forces, coming from territories that are part of today’s Austria, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Slovenia.
