Yeonggeumjeong is a photogenic pavilion sitting on a rocky outcrop connected to the shore by a short bridge. The Pavilion's name translates to "pavilion of the sound of the geomungo" because the waves crashing against the rocks below are said to sound like the traditional Korean stringed instrument. Since this location faces directly east as it looks over the East Sea, it is the perfect spot to experiment with sunrise photography. The pavilion silhouetted against a colourful sky with the ocean stretching out endlessly behind it is the perfect composition. The bridge is lit with LED lights at night and during blue hour which creates a strong leading lines into the frame. If you are not into sunrise photography, dramatic weather also works well here. When the wind picks up and waves crash hard against the rocks, the whole scene takes on a completely different mood. As a shooting bonus, stretch of waterfront is home to two pavilions. The Sunrise Pavilion at the end of the bridge and the Yeonggeum Pavilion Observatory sitting on a rocky hill. The Observatory pavillion gives a wider view of the coastline, Sokcho city, and the mountains behind. Plus the Sokcho Lighthouse is also a short walk away on the same coastal hill to round out your shooting adventure. (Sokcho, Gangwon Province, South Korea)
