The Clock Gate Tower was built in 1777 on the site of Trinity Castle, part of the towns fortifications. It was used as a prison during the 1798 rebellion and served the town as gaol and public gallows until 1837. It then became a family home until 1959 when the last family left. You can take a guided tour of the tower by pre-booking through the Youghal Tourist Office on Market Square. (Youghal, Ireland)
