The old hardware store in Loma sits long abandoned along the gravel Wx Rd. This classic wood-frame shop has weathered to a silver grey and its paint is long gone but the pressed-metal Hardware sign still sits high on the roof line. Below that the storefront is a patchwork of grey chipboard and open display windows, some with their glass still intact, and panels with peeling boards. Shooting it square-on from the road lets you full capture how this store as slowly fallen into disrepair over decades. A telephoto from across the road pulls the sign's lettering into a tight frame with nothing else in it. The front faces west so mornings put it in shadow, adding to the adandoned and eerie vibe of the shop. Late afternoon lights the whole face and picks out the grain in the boards, and overcast days will give even light on the grey wood. Sitting right beside the Hardware Store is a second empty shop with its own weathered look and a dark shingled roof. Both abandoned buildings stand on the roadside below the white steeple of St. Luke Catholic Church, so you can get all three in one wide frame from the road. Both abandoned buildings are on private property so you will need to stay on the roadside.
