Abbaye des Châteliers is a historic Cistercian abbey ruin located near La Flotte on Île de Ré along France’s Atlantic coast. Founded in the 12th century, the abbey was damaged during later conflicts, leaving behind the striking stone remains visible today. The surviving church walls feature tall Gothic window openings and partial arches that create strong shapes against the open sky. Set within flat coastal fields, the ruins stand largely unobstructed, allowing photographers to capture clean compositions from multiple angles around the site. The surrounding landscape and nearby sea give the location a quiet, atmospheric setting that works well for wide architectural and landscape shots. Soft evening light often highlights the texture of the weathered stone. (Île de Ré, Charente-Maritime, France)
