Acueducto de Morelia
The Morelia Aqueduct is a stunning 18th-century stone structure stretching nearly two kilometers along Avenida Acueducto, its 253 towering arches creating one of the most dramatic architectural rhythms you will find in Mexico. For photography, the long avenue offers natural leading lines that pull the eye deep into the frame, and shooting low with a wide angle lens emphasizes the scale and repetition of the arches. The golden hour before sunset bathes the pale limestone in warm light, but the aqueduct truly comes alive after dark when it is fully illuminated, making night photography with a tripod a worthwhile effort. Position yourself in the central median of the avenue for a straight-on symmetrical shot, or move to one side for more dynamic perspective. A 24-35mm lens works well for context shots, while a telephoto compresses the arches beautifully. Street parking is available along the boulevard. (Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico)
