The Akrotiri Shipwreck is a wreck site with a most interesting history. The ship itself, known as the Mav Achaios, was originally built in 1932. In the 1970s, it was loaded up with wood, that it was transporting on route from Yugoslavia to Saudi Arabia. A severe storm swept through the area causing the ship aground in the Akrotiri peninsula and sunk. The water depth in this area is only 7 m so the ship stands halfway out of the water, its rusted shell creating an enchanting image against the backdrop of the sea. (Akrotiri, Cyprus)
