Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen
Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen is a vast dune reserve stretching along the North Sea coast, where rolling sand ridges, dark pine forests, and hidden lakes create an unusually varied landscape for the Netherlands. The interplay of light across the open dunes is the main draw, especially in the golden hour when long shadows carve texture into the ridges and the pale sand takes on warm amber tones. Sunrise from one of the higher dune crests gives you sweeping views over the undulating terrain toward the sea, while foggy mornings add atmosphere to the forested sections. A wide angle lens works well for the open dune panoramas, but bring a telephoto for the abundant wildlife including deer, foxes, and herons near the ponds. The reserve requires a paid entry permit, so book in advance online; trails are well marked and the terrain is manageable on foot. (Zandvoort, North Holland, Netherlands)
