Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church is the last church Frank Lloyd Wright designed. He drew it in 1956, died before the ground was broken, and the building opened in 1961. It doesn't resemble a typical church building with its shallow blue dome sitting on a round base and reflecting pool. Getting low and close will let the curve of the dome fill the top of the frame and highlight its unique design. The arched openings underneath repeat the whole way round adding a sense of symmetry to your compositions. Gold trim runs through the building and shines in low sun. Evening light warms the blue and the gold together. Inside, the sanctuary is one circular room with no central aisle. A ring of glass spheres under the dome brings light down from overhead and spiral stairs come up from the parking level. In order to photography the interior you will have to book ahead, so make sure to contact the parish ahead of time. There is usually a charge for tours, and photography during one has to be approved ahead of time. The grounds are open for anyone to explore so the exterior can be shot any time.
