Arcos del Milenio
Rising from a wide plaza in western Guadalajara, these four towering yellow steel arches by Mexican sculptor Sebastián make for a striking geometric subject against the sky. The bold primary color and angular forms work especially well when you shoot from low angles looking upward, letting the arches frame the sky and compress their height dramatically. A wide or ultra-wide lens, something in the 16-24mm range, lets you get close and exaggerate the sense of scale while keeping the arches in full frame. Midday light can be harsh but actually suits the graphic, high-contrast nature of the sculpture; golden hour adds warmth that complements the yellow steel nicely. Try walking the full perimeter to find symmetrical compositions or layered perspectives where the arches overlap. The surrounding plaza is open and easy to navigate on foot, with plenty of room to back up and work different focal lengths. (Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico)
