Gauchimontones
Large circular pyramids are the highlight of this unique archaeological site dating to 300 BCE and built by the Teuchitlán. Little is known about the Teuchitlán tradition civilization that once lived at Guachimontones. It’s believed that the main pyramid was once used as a ceremonial site, with 52 steps corresponding to the Mayan calendar. Offering picturesque views of the town of Teuchitlán, the site also has some of the largest ball courts in Mesoamerica, on which ancient games were once played. We recommend going in August or September (at the end of the rainy season) when everything will be lush greens. (Jalisco, Mexico)
