Barrage Vauban is a 17th century stone dam and defensive structure in Strasbourg, built to control the flow of the Ill River and help protect the city. It stretches across the water like a low bridge, with covered arches below and a walkway on top that you can access. From the roof, you get some of the best views in the area, looking out over the canals, bridges, and half timbered buildings of Petite France. It is an easy place to shoot, whether you are capturing the structure itself from the outside or heading up top for wider city views. The arches below also give you nice framing options if you shoot from along the water. Early morning is quieter, while evening brings warmer light and reflections through the canals. It is right in the centre of Strasbourg and easy to include in a short walk between nearby spots. (Strasbourg, France)
