Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens
Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens is a unique spot featuring, medieval castle, historic country house with Grecian architecture and thirty acres of outstanding gardens. The castle features intricate rounded turrets and battlements and was constructed about 1370 as the home of the Middleton family. The castle was abandoned as a residence by the family in the early 19th century when Sir Charles Monck built Belsay Hall. The interiors of the castle were largely removed and it was then used as a ready-made folly, as was fashionable among the aristocracy at the time, serving as setting for garden parties and other entertainments. The unique micro-climate of the Quarry Garden is filled with exotic plants around every twist and turn, plus be sure to take time to enjoy the quirky open spaces around the Hall and the castle.
