Birkenkopf Lookout
Birkenkopf, also known as "Monte Scherbelino," is Stuttgart’s highest point, formed by the addition of over 15 million cubic meters of rubble from World War II bombings. Rising 511 meters above sea level, this man made hill features scattered remains of destroyed buildings, serving as a quiet memorial and powerful visual reminder of the city's wartime past. At the summit, a large steel cross overlooks panoramic views of Stuttgart and the surrounding Swabian hills, making it a striking location for both landscape and documentary style photography. Accessible via forest trails or a short drive from the city center, Birkenkopf is especially photogenic during sunrise and sunset when light plays across the rubble and the skyline beyond.
