Botanical Garden of Košice
The Botanical Garden of Košice is the largest in Slovakia, stretching out over 30 hectares, and is part of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University. The outdoor gardens are home to roughly 4,000 plant species, and in spring/summer the flower displays explode with a rainbow of colours. The greenhouses house tropical and subtropical plants including one of the largest cactus collections in central Europe with roughly 1,200 different species. There is also a butterfly house filled with free flying butterflies that are perfect for macro photography, if you have the patience. The lower section of the garden has a peaceful pond, winding trails and mature trees. It is a quiet, hidden gem that most tourists in Košice never find. The greenhouses will fog your lens quickly when you step inside from cooler air, so give your gear a minute to adjust. The Botanická Záhrada tram stop is a short walk from the entrance. There is an entrance fee to explore the gardens but the gardens are open all year round so it should be easy to fit them into any shooting adventure. (Košice, Slovakia)
