This historic CCC-built cabin sits tucked beneath a dense canopy of old-growth Douglas fir in the Oregon Cascades, and the combination of rustic 1930s architecture against towering evergreens makes it a compelling subject on its own. Position yourself to use the tree trunks as natural framing around the structure, or step back to emphasize how small the cabin feels beneath the forest canopy. Overcast days work beautifully here since the dense tree cover creates harsh contrast in direct sun; soft diffused light brings out the warm tones of the aged wood and lets detail hold in both shadows and highlights. A wide to mid-range zoom in the 24-50mm range gives you flexibility to isolate the cabin or include surrounding trees. The site sits along the West Cascades Scenic Byway and is accessible by car, making it an easy stop to combine with nearby waterfalls and lava fields. (Blue River, Oregon, United States)
