Brand Park Hiking Trail
Perched at the base of the Verdugo Mountains, this trail gives you sweeping elevated views over the San Fernando Valley and the Los Angeles basin stretching out to the horizon. As you climb, gaps in the chaparral open up to reveal layered compositions with rooftops, city grids, and distant mountain ranges stacked behind them. Golden hour before sunset is the sweet spot here, when warm light rakes across the valley floor and haze takes on a soft amber glow; early morning works well too if you want cleaner air and cooler temperatures. A wide angle lens helps you capture the full expanse, while a telephoto lets you compress the cityscape for more dramatic results. The trailhead is easy to find off Mission Road and the lower sections are accessible without technical gear, though sturdy shoes are recommended for the steeper switchbacks.
