Breakwater View

This concrete breakwater extends from the shore near Sans Souci Beach, giving you an elevated platform above the waterline with unobstructed views back toward Diamond Head, the Waikiki shoreline, and the Ko'olau Mountains. Walk out to the end for a wide composition that pulls Diamond Head into the background with the beach curving naturally in the foreground, or crouch low along the wall to use the breakwater itself as a leading line into the scene. A wide angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well here. Sunset is the most rewarding time, when warm light catches the volcanic slopes of Diamond Head and the shoreline begins to glow, but the hour after sunset is equally strong as city lights reflect off the calm water on the sheltered side.
