Burghley House

Burghley House - Photo by Anthony Masi1 / 1

Having been built by William Cecil (Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I) 500 years ago, sixteen generations of the Cecil family have lived in Burghley House ever since. Burghley is one of the largest and grandest surviving houses of the sixteenth century and a magnificent example of the great Elizabethan ‘prodigy’ houses. Plus there is a wonderful gallery of contemporary sculpture sitting amongst hidden trails, herbaceous planting areas and undulating landscapes in the Sculpture Garden. The Parkland, largely designed by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown, offers beautiful walking routes and stunning views of Burghley House. (Stamford, Lincolnshire, England)
