About Büsum lighthouse (Leuchtturm Büsum)
The Büsum Lighthouse (Leuchtturm Büsum) is an eye catching tower sitting right beside the harbour in Büsum. The lighthouse has a bright red and white paint job with a black lantern on top, and has been in continuous use since 1913. The bustling harbour is home to a variety of boats. Shrimp boats are often tied up close to the lighthouse so you can line up their masts and nets with the tower to highlight the area as a working harbour. Walking out toward the harbour entrance lets you add the two little harbour markers on the breakwaters, one red and one green, into a wider conposition. That red paint really pops on a grey North Sea day, so overcast weather works well here. Since the light is still active this is a great location to visit after dark to experiment with long exposures. You can't go inside the tower, but the grounds and harbour are open to explore, and it's an easy walk from the town centre. (Büsum, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany)
