Castello di Brunico stands on a wooded hill above the town of Bruneck in Northern Italy. Built in the 13th century by the Prince-Bishops of Brixen, the castle overlooks the rooftops of the town and the surrounding valley. Its stone walls, towers, and inner courtyard provide strong architectural subjects, while elevated viewpoints around the grounds offer wide views toward the Dolomites. The castle now houses part of the Messner Mountain Museum, adding cultural interest to the visit. It is easily reached by a short uphill walk from Bruneck’s historic center, and late afternoon light works well on the stone walls and valley backdrop. (Bruneck, South Tyrol, Italy)
