This Victorian Gothic brick cathedral rewards patient photographers willing to explore both its exterior massing and richly detailed interior. Outside, position yourself across the street to capture the full facade with its pointed arches, ornate brickwork, and twin towers framing the entrance; a wide-angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well here to get the full height without too much distortion. Step inside to find stained glass windows, vaulted ceilings, and rows of pews creating strong leading lines toward the altar. Midday light pushes color through the stained glass most intensely, making interior shots particularly rewarding, while overcast days soften harsh shadows on the exterior. The church sits in a walkable part of Birmingham, and visiting on a weekday morning gives you the best chance of a quiet interior with minimal foot traffic. Always confirm visiting hours before arrival. (Birmingham, Alabama, United States)
