Cefn Viaduct
Cefn Viaduct is a grand Victorian railway viaduct stretching across the River Dee valley in northeast Wales, its nineteen tall stone arches cutting an impressive silhouette against the surrounding woodland and hills. The structure rewards patient composition; from the valley floor you can shoot upward to emphasize the height and repetition of the arches, while moving back along the riverbank lets you capture the full sweep of the viaduct reflected in the water below. A wide to mid-range zoom works well for the full span, but a longer lens compresses the arches nicely for a more dramatic effect. Golden hour light, particularly in the morning, wraps the warm sandstone in soft tones and casts long shadows through the arches. The surrounding woodland adds seasonal interest, with autumn color making the stone stand out especially well. Access is on foot via paths along the valley, so wear appropriate footwear.
