Chimney Bluffs
Chimney Bluffs offers some of the most otherworldly geology in the entire Great Lakes region, where glacially formed drumlins have been carved by erosion into soaring, knife-edged spires and ridges rising up to 150 feet above Lake Ontario. Walk the ridge trail for elevated angles looking down and along the bluffs, or drop to the shoreline to shoot upward and capture the full dramatic height of the pinnacles against the sky. A wide-angle lens works well for the sweeping ridgeline, while a short telephoto lets you isolate individual spires and compress the layers of texture. Golden hour light, especially in the late afternoon, rakes across the eroded faces and deepens the shadows between peaks. The shoreline below can be rocky and uneven, so wear sturdy footwear; the ridge path is more accessible but gets narrow in places, so move carefully near the edges.
