Cobweb Bridge spans the River Don in Sheffield's Kelham Island district, suspended beneath the historic Wicker Arches viaduct by a radiating web of steel cables that give the structure its name. The geometry here is the main draw: shoot upward from the bridge deck to capture the cable patterns converging overhead, or get low near the riverbank to frame the bridge against the arches behind it. The large steel spider sculptures that house the lighting add a striking detail worth isolating with a longer focal length. Overcast days work well by reducing harsh shadows and letting the industrial metalwork hold detail, while blue hour brings out the warm glow of the spider-mounted lights against the darkening sky. The bridge is pedestrian-only and easy to access from the Kelham Island area; a wide angle lens works well for the full structure, but bring a longer zoom for the sculptural details.
