Set within the attractive conservation village of Elsecar, Elsecar Heritage Centre is a unique shooting gem and a working hub of industry. Visitors to Elsecar Heritage Centre will find an interesting variety of individual craft workshops, artist studios, antique centres and exhibitions alongside a children’s indoor play centre, cafe and a historical steam railway. The restored ironworks and colliery workshops are also home to Elsecar Visitor Centre which houses a small exhibition about Elsecar’s past. The Elsecar Heritage Railway currently operates a passenger service that runs between Rockingham Station at the Elsecar Heritage Centre, through some extremely historic and scenic countryside alongside the Dearne and Dove Canal, to the present terminus next to the canal basin at Hemingfield. The Sunday passenger service trains, which are open to the general public, are hauled by Heritage Steam and Diesel locomotives, operated and restored entirely by volunteers. (Elsecar, England)
