Commissioners Park

Commissioners Park stretches along the western shore of Dows Lake in Ottawa, offering a long, open waterfront that rewards wide compositions combining water reflections, mature trees, and the gentle curve of the shoreline. The park is best known as the heart of the Canadian Tulip Festival each May, when densely planted beds of tulips line the paths and create vivid foreground interest against the lake backdrop. During the festival, arrive early in the morning before crowds build and the light is soft and directional, ideal for isolating individual blooms or pulling back with a wide angle to capture the full scale of the planting. Outside of tulip season, the park offers pleasant lakeside reflections and tree-lined paths that work well in golden hour light.
