About Coronado Heights Castle

Coronado Heights Castle is a small stone castle on top of a bluff northwest of Lindsborg, out in the Smoky Hills of central Kansas. WPA crews put it up in the 1930s out of local sandstone, with turrets, a fireplace and a flight of steps to an open deck on the roof. It stands close to a hundred metres above the valley floor with nothing else near it, so the view from the top runs the whole way round. Since this sit sits all alone on a hilltop both sunrise and sunset are equally photogenic here. Plus you can watch weather build across the plains for an hour before it reaches you, giving you interesting skies to experiment with capturing. Stay after dark as well, since there's very little light pollution out this way it's an amazing spot for astrophotography. You can drive right to the top and park beside the castle. It's looked after by a local historical association so make sure to leave it just as you found it. (Lindsborg, Kansas, USA)
