Cotter Force
Cotter Force is a hidden gem known for its tranquil beauty and photogenic qualities. This secluded waterfall cascades over six gentle steps, with a total height of about 4.5 meters, offering photographers a variety of opportunities to capture long-exposure shots of the smooth, flowing water. The force is surrounded by lush woodlands, where moss-covered rocks and overhanging trees create a serene atmosphere and frame the waterfall beautifully in all seasons. In autumn, the vibrant foliage adds warm colors to the scene, while the surrounding greenery in spring and summer provides a fresh, natural backdrop. The waterfall is easily accessible via a short, flat path from a nearby layby, making it an excellent spot for all levels of photography. After rainfall, the water flow increases, enhancing the drama of the cascading falls. Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to photograph Cotter Force, as the softer light creates a more magical ambiance. Its peaceful setting, combined with the picturesque woodland surroundings, makes Cotter Force a must-visit for nature and landscape photographers exploring this part of the Yorkshire Dales.
