About Cova Tallada
Cova Tallada is an impressive sea cave tucked away along the eastern edge of Cap de Sant Antoni. The cave is a unique mix of nature and man made. The sea has slowly been carving out part of it, while other parts of it have been dug out by hand over centuries to use the stone for buildings around the region. Inside, openings in the rock look straight out onto over the ocean. The cave is big enough that you can easily shoot from the back of the cave looking out. this lets you experiment with contrasting the dark walls around the edges and the bright water in the middle of your frames. Because the cave faces north, most of the light inside is soft and bounces up off the water. Expect a few dark corners. The sea cave is accessible by hiking in from the Les Rotes lookout along the Senda de la Cova Tallada path (roughly 1.5 km each way). The trail has incredible views as you hike, so you may want to factor in extra time to pause along the way. You can also paddle in on a guided kayak tour. Since this sea cave is a fragile ecosystem an permit system is now in place so from roughly Easter to mid October you need to book a free permit booked online in advance. There is a limited number of permits issued each day, especially during tourist season. Aim to book a morning permit, and give yourself time to sit and watch the light move on the water.
