Crawick Multiverse
Crawick Multiverse is a vast land art installation in the Scottish Borders, built on a reclaimed open cast coal mine and shaped into sweeping earthworks, stone avenues, and galaxy-inspired mounds. The scale is hard to grasp at ground level, so climb the Milky Way or Andromeda mounds for elevated views across the whole site, with the surrounding hills providing a dramatic backdrop. The 400 meter stone avenue works well as a leading line, especially from a low angle to emphasize the boulders flanking the path. Overcast days suit this place well, softening the light and giving the grey stone a moody, ancient quality; golden hour adds warmth and long shadows that bring the landforms to life. A wide angle lens helps convey the scale, though a mid-range zoom is useful for isolating boulder arrangements. The site is free to enter and the terrain is walkable, though sturdy footwear is recommended. (Sanquhar, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland)
